Dear Members,
Last Sunday 4th November 2018 a group of experienced kayakers comprising current and previous members of PKC arrived at the Roughty River, Kilgarvan, Co Kerry. Conditions were good, the river was not in flood and preceded by another group they paddled the river without issue until nearing the get-out when an incident occurred.
Words cannot express our shock and sadness in having to inform our members that as a result of that incident we lost one of our own; Brita Waters.
Brita was a member of Phoenix and Lir Canoe Club Dublin and kayaked extensively at home and abroad. She had recently moved to Cork; Brita and partner Martin Tarrant (ex Club Secretary) had planned to marry next year. We offer our condolences to Martin, their family and friends and also our thoughts to those kayaking with her on Sunday last.
The clubhouse will be open on Friday 9th November 4:30 to 9pm for those wishing to sign a book of condolence. May she rest in peace.
The club will provide help to those affected by this tragedy, please don’t hesitate to contact the Committee if you need support.
