PostSubject: 2-day canoe and camp - where to go?   Tue 12 Jun 2018, 2:03 pm

Hi folks, myself and 3 friends are looking at heading off in two 2-man canoes for a 2 day trip with an overnight camp. We are just looking for a scenic river to go with the flow and just enjoy nature and the scenery. We are hoping to go in August or early September. We'll be travelling from Cork and Dublin.
I'd love to hear your recommendations or experience for a trip like that.

Totally objectively 🤪 you have a no brainer with the Blackwater and a choice of where to start.

Fermoy down is fantastic and good on most waters - you can start further back but water can be a problem.

In moderate water and cruising down a two day trips is ideal. Stopping off in Cappaqoin (wild camp or the local pub does great grub, drink and a B&B) - not that I would take that easy option. Watch the tides and fog in the mornings.

This trip I have done a few times and loved it - also there is a great book about the canoe river trips which I will look up and post.

PM if you want more details

Great info, thanks lads. That'd be great if you could get the name of that book.
I'm not sure if if makes a huge difference but the trip has been moved to between late July and early August.
I have gone from Lismore to Youghal and thought it was glorious.
I have heard from some folk that the barrow is a beaut so must try investigate that option too.

Hi,

The Barrow is also entirely navigable with the options of Locks if you didn't fancy running the weirs. Beautiful spot also.

Whatever you choose,

Enjoy,

Jason.
