PostSubject: Liffey Descent Safety, members needed.   Sun 10 Sep 2017, 6:24 am

Hi All.
Members needed for safety for the Liffey Descent. You do not need to be level 3 to help out !!!
This is a great way to get involved if you are not paddling! We will be together as a group on Anne Liffey weir 9.1km from the finish. It is a relatively easy weir so shouldn't be manic. There is always a shortage of Saftey so please participate ( you'll get free food a free t-shirt and a pat on the back).
We need two people (can be level 2) someone who is compatent with a trow rope and someone who can help with guiding on the weir.
You can Private message me if you are shy !!!😉

So far we have:
Martin Tarrant (boat)
Declan O Connor (boat)
Paul O Farrell (boat)
Maria mc Mahon (directions)
Denis Queally (guiding on weir)
Evan Roberts (guiding on weir)
Bryan O Rourke (rope)
Felix Millner (rope)

I'll give a hand out, but not experienced at throwing ropes. Did I see a form to complete somewhere?

No Denis you don't need a boat.
Only Martin, Declan and Paul need to bring boats!

Here are the details for rescue...

Location:
In short, make your way to iCanoe's new premises in Lucan, pass it on your right hand side and the get on is just a few hundred metres up that road, also on the right hand side, at the large gated estate (Shakletons).
Here is the google maps reference:

https://www.google.ie/maps/@53.3678087,6.4368961,3a,75y,77.84h,79.67t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sHmmkU2wfvpJq_lbD0eb7Zw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

There is limited parking here so please car pool if you can. Even with that, if there is not enough space for all to park here, continue up this road and there will be space to park on the left hand side a little further up.

Food and Water:
Expect to be on the water for four-ish hours so make sure that you have enough food and water for a full day. A warm drink too mightn't be a bad idea.

Safety equipment:
Bring what safety equipment you have...ropes, slings etc. We can sort out what we need on the side of the road before we get on the water. If you have a first aid kit, bring that along also. I'll be bringing my splits but a second set of splits might not do any harm.

Clothing:
Standard clothing for anybody that is in their boat for the day. Anybody that will be standing in the water (including pointer at the top of the weir), maybe standing in knee high water so wear extra clothing on the lower half of your body.

Everyone will need their boat and paddle, buoyancy aid, helmet and spray deck as we do have a short paddle down river to reach the weir.

Time:
We need to be on water for 12pm so aiming to meet at 11am to have enough time to set up.
