I was reading an article somewhere online about leaving your helmet in the car when its warm it basically said don't because the heat degrades the impact protection of the helmet, I can't find the article but just thought its a good one to share !

Its similar to leaving it in direct sunlight for any period of time.

If the helmet is composite( fibreglass/carbon ), it is therefore built in layers.
The heat can cause the layers to delaminate, pull apart.
The heat can also degraded any glues that might be holding it together.

The heat in your car on a sunny day can reach in excess of 40c
You shouldn't leave your boat or paddles in at those heats either.

For anyone with anything foam core. Its especially important. Foam cores contain air, which expand in the heat, and can burst seams,
or rapidly contract when they hit the water and cool down. This rapid expanding/contracting over time will cause stress and cracks.

So anyone with a composite helmet, foam core paddles, composite boats, surfboards should be very careful about leaving them in warm cars without windows open, or in direct sunshine in your garden or wherever you store it.
Its not as severe with plastics, as most plastics have a memory from when they are moulded, and heat will more than likely return them to their original shape, but it still degrades the plastic somewhat.
