PostSubject: River Laney blocked by a huge tree   Sun 06 Oct 2013, 10:01 pm

Myself, Seamus and Finbarr were out today cutting trees on the River Laney, Macroom in anticipation of some water and a club trip.

After a few hours and thinking we were almost sorted we came across this tree about 500 metres up-river of the constrictor.

Will defo need more than a pruning saw, there was six trunks over a foot thick each and tall enough you couldn't see over when standing next to it.....

Anybody know some kayaking tree surgeons????

Looks like a portage.
If you trim it away bit by bit from river right side you will probably get a line down eventually. Wouldn't waste too much effort on it though, considering that it will probably shift and break up in a big flood.

Ye didn't by any chance leave anything else behind on the river yesterday????

It must shift at some stage, there is some room for it to swing downriver from river right and after a few storms there will be a huge amount of debris and pressure on it. The farmer is aware of it, hopefully he'll see an opportunity for some firewood!

We did portage, but you'd need to be handy enough to eddy out before it in decent water.

Finally, what happens on the river, stays in the river.......literally Very Happy
