Hi, I'm in town for a month at the UCC for a summer course.  From New Orleans.  Is it possible to rent a kayak for a month in Cork?  Or otherwise have access to one for a daily paddle on the Lee? John

John,
We only rent kayaks to members - but can offer you 'student or associate membership' for 35 Euro - our rental charge for a kayak is then 10 per week. We would need to know that you have somewhere secure to store the kayak if you were taking it off site. We are also running beginners courses during the summer and our kayaks are in strong demand - so it would depend on what sort of kayak you were looking for and whether we would need it for our Tuesday night sessions. We will be having a club night on site tonight, from about 6.30pm - why don't you call over and have a chat with us, one of our equipment officers (Ralph or Martin) should be available to talk to you about it.

This sounds great to me.  I'm look for a sit-inside 12' recreational kayak for my purposes, which are mainly to be on the water, to see as much of Cork waterways as are accessible, and to get exercise. I'm teaching every day at UCC from 4:00 to 6:00, and on every Tues and Thurs I have an evening event from 7:00 to 10:00.

Where are you located in relation to the city center?  I'm on foot for most part, staying at Victoria Lodge on Western Road, right on the river, but I'm not sure how accessible the river is at this section.

From Victoria Lodge go towards the city, but take the first left (By the AIB bank & Church). Keep going until you cross the river (flower shop ahead of you), then turn left. We are about 1/2 mile along this road on the river bank.

You can also get directions from the main page of our website.

Perfect.  I'll walk on over there as soon as I get a free moment.  Thanks very much.
