| Well, we've returned from our expedition. We felt a little short changed with the deluge that hit Cork after we landed in Castlegregory, but the excellent surf we experienced in the Kingdom softened the blow of not running a river. Our expedition to Kerry can be summed up in three words, sunburn, surf and........... dislocation Get well soon Daz, you handled it like a legend, the water won't be the same without you. Paul Heff |

| No Paul YOU were the Legend Sorry for putting a dent in your weekend , Thanks to everyone who helped !!! I would like to share my experience with everyone it might be of benefit to others : I came back after a year off kayaking I was out on the Lee the previous weeks but never practiced my roll, Earlier during the day I surfed the bigger waves no problem not turning upside down once then I left the water, I returned later and the Tide had come fully in the waves were High CLOSE TO THE BEACH so they were DUMPING HARD. I was surfing in and couldn't believe I had gone upside down AND ... I tried to roll straight away when a wave came crashing down on my extended paddle ( I was in a full reach pushing one with full force while the wave pushed the paddle the opposite way and seemed to wrap me around the boat underwater ( I heard underwater a series of crunching that was my arm dislocating - like a fool I tried to roll again, I then reached for my spraydeck with my right damaged hand but could not reach I then pulled it off with my left. I got to shore and the rescue begun, Lessons Learned: When I used to roll before i'd count 3 seconds relax and then roll I did'nt do it this time I blame this on taking a break from kayaking and not having praticed the roll recently, also I got the timing wrong when your out deep you can judge the next wave coming and it's not dumping down on you. Now I realize ( IT's OK TO SWIM ) I saw 3 lads looking at me from the beach and refused to swim hence hurting myself I had a choice !!! I would like advice from people in the club who may have suffered a dislocation on how long it takes to get back into a boat. Kayaking is an important part of my life and I really enjoy the crack and friends but I'm not sure when and if I will be able to go out again. i've never experienced such pain in all my life and went into shock and very very quiet, I had Shannon in the back of Pauls car and it took everything on the journey to the Hospital not to black out, But i've gain so much respect for Paul Heff He kept it all together. I asked to be knocked out before they were going to pop my shoulder back in but they only gave me gas and i'm sure I emptied the canister When the Doctor came in I told him To get somebody to hold me down ( I had a bad experience with a dentist once ) and so They wriggled and pulled and I heard a Pop. I looked up and saw Shannon playing a game on my iPhone Going back to Hospital tomorrow to see what they say. | Oh Daz - I'm in pain just reading about your experience. Good to hear that Shannon doesn't appear to have been too traumatised by the event.
Hope you get well soon and that you are back on the water before too long. |

| What an eventful weekend, plenty of paddling and socialising. Talks of a bit of "fast dancin", I think everyone had a great time. Looking forward to our next outing. Thanks again to everyone for making it a great weekend.
