Hi Folks,
Looking for support in rescue\safety for the re scheduled Blackwater challenged which is in aid of the Mercy Hospital again this year....our shuttles & everything to be completed by 10:45 safety brief then followed by start at 11:00.
http://www.mercyhospitalfoundation.ie/kayak-challenge.html

There will be free BBQ afterwards for recharge before swim rescue.

The Martin Duggan Memorial swim is afterwards at the finish at 2pm for which we also need rescue. Should be over in an hour.
http://blackwaterswim.blogspot.ie/

Rescue for either or both required.

The Blackwater Challenge is an exciting 12k family friendly paddle down the Blackwater river. Suitable for beginners or those looking for a great day out in aid of the Mercy Hospital.
Starts 11:00 pm from Convamore, Ballyhooly, Co. Cork to Fermoy, Rowing Club, Co. Cork.
Assembly is from 10:30 pm. All participants must be registered by 10:45 pm.

Of course if you or your friends are interested in just taking part see the attached link for details
Regards,
Conor

Hi Conor,

I can help out for both. Let me know meeting time and place?. Would I be able to rent a kayak from the club for the day to help?

Hi Conor,

I'd be up for this.

Need to get a boat from the clubhouse but Sunday morning dosen't suit. Was hoping to get one this evening but not sure now as it's cancelled.

If clubhouse will be open this evening I can call out to get a boat and could also bring down a boat for anyone else that might need one.

I should be good for both.

I can make the clubhouse this evening at 5.45 - if anybody wants to sign boats out for this evening's paddle of the Laney, or Sunday's Blackwater Challenge. I can't hang around for too long though - will be leaving the site by 6.15 at the latest.

Hi folks,
Thank you for your kind offers to assist but for the second time we are postponing the Blackwater Challenge due to high water levels.
I am waiting for confirmation on the Martin Duggan swim is to go ahead or not.
Regards,
Conor

PostSubject: Swim going ahead tomorrow   Sat 30 Jun 2012, 11:18 am

Safety brief at 2 pm. On water from 2:15. Approx 30-35 swimmers.
We will launch & recover from the same spot.
Course may be shortened from 2km....
All swimmers off the water 4 pm.
There is water so weir is an option afterwards depending on levels.
Any questions or directions call me at 086 4079915.
Thank you in advance Conor.

PostSubject: Thank you all   Sun 01 Jul 2012, 5:51 pm

Hi Guys,
Big thank you for all the help.
There were 12 of us for rescue with 32 swimmers over a 2 km course in the end with 2 rescues I saw so we were needed & appreciated.
Funny moment seeing Jamie sprinting to try & keep up with the lead swimmer on the down stream stretch. lol!
Some fun on the weir afterwards were one of us not to be mentioned decided to take up swimming also Very Happy

Regards,
Conor.
