PostSubject: How to get back on the boat?   Thu 15 Sep 2011, 6:04 pm

Hi all,

I did the beginner course last year and got my cert, and did the pool session in Cobh following that. But completely fell off the boat so to speak since then.

What's a good way to get back into kayaking, without re-doing the courses? Are there a few beginner runs coming up that I could take part in?

I spotted this listing for last year's club outings: http://phoenixkayakclub.editboard.com/t1805-winter-paddling-season-2010-2011-club-outings-schedule - will there be a similar series of outings this year and can a raw-ish beginner partake?

Thanks!

Ger

Hi Ger,

The simple solution is to join the club, and get out as often as you can!! If no trips are organised, ask on the forum if someone is going out. (Club members can hire gear for 10 euro)

I will be compiling a schedule in the next week or two for the winter season, we will most likely be doing something every Sunday this year.

To start with, we plan on having the clubs annual Kayak & BBQ day on Saturday October 1st. The details aren't sorted yet but its a great one to start back with, mingle with everyone and introduce yourself. Its hard going I suppose being the new boy in a crowd, but we all had to do it!!

The quicker you're known the quicker you'll get invites to paddle. I don't get that many funnily enough.... Suspect scratch confused

You'll find a link for members forms on our homepage. We're having a pub quiz tmrw night in the Commons Bar if you're available.

Regards

Paul Heff

Great - thanks Paul. I'll keep an eye out for details on those trips, and pull down that application form meanwhile.

Speak soon,

Ger
