PostSubject: Ladies paddling weekends   Tue Sep 13 2011, 16:50

Just got this from ICU:

In order to promote female participation in kayaking in Ireland the Training Development Unit Committee has decided to run four female only kayaking weekends. Each weekend will promote a different kayaking discipline, so come to the one that interests you most - or come to them all. The first weekend is to be run in Cork on the 22nd & 23rd October. There is a river trip and a surf kayak session organised for the Cork weekend. There will be surf kayaks to try out and coaching from Aisling Griffin and Muireann Lynch.

The river trip is planned for the Lee Fields which will be a nice mellow trip but finishing up at the sluice where anyone can have a go at some freestyle. Munster Dive and Canoe have organised a film night for Saturday evening.

The second event will be in Mayo on the 19th and 20th of November. This weekend will have an emphasis on sea kayaking and polo.

The third weekend is scheduled to take place in the Dublin area on the 28th and 29th of January. Here there will be a slalom session and a river safety and rescue course run by Jenny Kilbride.

The final weekend will be in Limerick on the 11th and 12th of March where there will be a rolling session and, depending on water, either a river trip, boofing clinic or freestyle session. So add these dates to your diary!

All you need is to have ICU membership. Each weekend will cost €20. This will include all your coaching and instruction and boat rental if needed.

If you have any questions or queries check out the facebook page ‘Female Kayak Weekends’ for all the info or send me an email at lauragriffin25@hotmail.com.

Tell anyone else who you think might be interested.
Hope to see you in Cork.

Laura Griffin.

Hi folks,
just a quick reminder the Cork weekend is next weekend, plan is surfing on Saturday, a few sociable beverages Saturday night, and an Anglers Rest - Lee Fields trip Sunday finishing at the sluice. There'll be surf boats to try, and some coaching / tips / advice. We're trying to finalise numbers and details so we know how many boats we need to beg borrow and steal, so if you're intending going to either or both days it would be helpful if you could sign up here
More details on the facebook page here
It's a great chance to get to know more girls, hear some funny stories, maybe even do some paddling, and it means when you go to the next race or competition you'll know more friendly faces in your category flower

After this, the next one is the last weekend of November in Mayo which will have sea kayaking and polo - the more the merrier!

Hi folks,
just a reminder - meeting at 12 tomorrow at Garretstown. We'll have some surf boats to try, but you'll need to bring all your gear, and preferably a boat in case there aren't enough to go around.
See ye there

A big well done to those who braved the weather on Saturday. We had a fun if windy day in Garylucas, it was really great to see 20 odd ladies out enjoying themselves on the water
