PostSubject: Paddling on Saturday?   Fri 28 Jan 2011, 10:58 am

Anybody wanna go paddling tomorrow?

Rain is in short supply, so was thinking about sea kayaking but magic seaweed suggests is going to be a bit windy (24-28km/h from NE)

High tide is 13.28 (Marino point) so could head for the east end of Cork harbour. Any suggestions seasoned sea kayakers? any where better to go? A harbour further west?

Sunday would suit me best, wind drops to 9km SW too.

Any interest in paddling out to the old head of Kinsale about 10am Sunday?

Sunday sounds a plan then.

Is the usual to do white strand to the quay on the east side of the head? Or is there a longer trip with shuttles?

By White Strand, I presume you mean Garrylucas Beach, Garretstown? i.e. the big long one, not the surfing beach? The shuttle to Speckledore pier is all of 5 mins each way.

Sea area weather forecast: http://met.ie/forecasts/sea-area.asp
Wind: East to northeast mainly force 3 to 4, occasionally force 5. Becoming east or variable force 3 or less tonight.

It may be windy, or not...... If it's the above we could probably paddle out to the head from the beach and return, if the wind does ease, continue to Speckledore. We can decide tmrw.

High Tide is 14:46. I suggest we meet 10:30am (or later) at Garrylucas beach and decide from there. If the wind prevents a round trip, starting earlier would risk having to return against the mid-flow of the incoming tide.

How does that sound to everyone?

10.30 sounds good to me - I'll open up the site for 9.15 if anybody needs a sea-kayak. Let me know if anyone else is going to the site - 'cos I'll need to organise help to load up a boat!

Have keys for club site but may not get there till 9.30 as need a lie in.
It's my first day off in 2 weeks with end of year bits for work etc and first aid last weekend.
