PostSubject: CORK TO COBH SWIM SUPPORT REQUEST   Thu 23 Sep 2010, 10:50 am

Hi

You or your club has kindly supported the Cork to Cobh Swim in past years and I'm requesting your support again if possible this year ?

Without the kind support of our Kayakers and Boats we cannot run this charity event.

Please spread the message within your club or to friends !!

This years 16K Cork to Cobh swim is in aid of Cork Simon Community

We will meet at 11:30 Lapps Quay Cork Sat 02 Oct to commence swim at 13:00

Please email me at fergusgalvin@hotmail.com if you can support us this year

Please see the attachment for further details

With Thanks

Fergus Galvin
Event Organiser

THIS EVENT IS RUN EVERY YEAR AND IS A HANDY PADDLE. IF YOU CAN PADDLE IN A STRAIGHT LINE THEN YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO ASSIST. YOUR MANIN ROLE IS JUST TO CARRY A DRINK AND FOOD FOR THE SWIMMER AND IF NECESSARY PROVIDE ASSISTANCE UNTIL A RIB PICKS THEM UP, HOWEVER THIS IS HIGHLY UNLIKELY AS ALL SWIMMERS ARE FAIRLY ACCOMPLISHED

I plan to go and will be at the Club house at 10.45am to open up and organise boats.

Please post here if you plan to go and also if you need a club boat. We don't plan to use the club trailer, so we will need to organise roof rack transport as well.

Hi,

Am new to the club but am happy to help out and would love the paddle. Have my own kayak so I'm sorted with that, so can meet you at the club house or at Lapps Quay.

If you are thinking of providing assistance, please post here as each swimmer needs a akyaker in order to swim, so they would be really grateful if they knew in advance if they had a kayaker.

Its a bit of a downer to have trainer for this big swim and not be able to do it on the day. The more kayakers the better for yourselves as well, as you can put two paddlers with each swimmer therefore having a bit of a chat as ye go.

I should be able to make this. As this is a Cork to Cobh paddle I imagine that a sea-kayak would be d best to use.

Sinead - I reckon that we will have to organise shuttle transport (another reason for everybody to meet at the club house to organise in the morning) - I have just emailed Fergus for details of parking etc. Hope for an update later today.

CHANGE OF PLAN FOLKS....

We all have to get up earlier - so go easy if you're out on the town tonight. drunken

We will be dropping kayaks to the Clarion at 10am and then doing a shuttle to Cobh - to be back in time for the safety briefing at 11.30 ish.

The swim will take 3.5 to 5 hours - so make sure you have your own packed lunch with you and plenty to drink. For any first timers - make sure you feel confident that you can cope with the paddle and length of time on the water. The pace won't be fast and slower paddlers can go with slower swimmers - still it is a long paddle for a first outing! Soup and sandwiches will be provided for all in the Quay Hotel afterwards.

Given the length of the paddle I would strongly recommend that you use a sea kayak - or at the very least a dancer.

I will be at the club house from 9.15 - and could you now be there at 9.30 at the very latest.

Also Fergus has emailed me details of the safety details and route - please pm me your email address and mobile number and I will forward this on to you. Also let me know if you have a roof rack and how many sea kayaks you can transport. My mobile number is 087 2288397.
