PostSubject: open canoe enthusiastes   Fri 17 Sep 2010, 3:47 pm

hello again

I'd like to see if there is anyone interested in a five week canoe skills workshop (saturday mornings) with emphasis on Level 2 skills.
depending how it runs we could try and arrange L2 assessment at the end.
at the moment we can accomadate 6 people, I feel if we could russle up some more boats we could do more solo paddling, poling etc.

regards

Hugh

OK
I've got one definite candidate so far. I was hoping to start this saturday (25th) as I can't make saturday the 2nd Oct.
If there isn't anybody else the session will be done on some white water.

regards

Hugh

PostSubject: money   Tue 21 Sep 2010, 3:59 pm

great that is two candidates.
there will be no cost for this as it, for various reasons, must be informal; that is unless there is some crazy club policy, that nobody has told me about.
getting an assessment at the end however will cost something??

If there is room I'd love to go, what time are you hoping to meet and finish at? I've something going on in the evening so if this is an afternoon activity I might not be able to make it Sad

Thanks
Olive

ok we can go ahead.
evan is doing a sterling job and sorting out access for us. thanks Evan.
boats are still an issue for a variety of reasons but I think we have enough for tomorrow.
or heaven forbid use kayaks.
the list as it stands;

sinead
cathal
nollaig

four of which are definite for tomorrow.

we'll start at ten and try and finish by twelve.

PostSubject: bath tub symposium   Sat 25 Sep 2010, 10:40 pm

first session of the open canoe skill share event has taken place and was an overwhelmimg success.
thanks to martin; for opening etc.
every body seemed to enjoy themselves; sean demonstrated how olympic athletes get back into their boat, nollaig took a shine to stand-up paddling and mark kirk was a welcome addition who, as well as bringing his own experience, also supplied his own boat allowing everybody to have a go soloing.

next date will be saturday the 9th of Oct. there is still one vacancy for that session if all goes according to my evil plan.

regards

Hugh

PostSubject: all right allready   Fri 08 Oct 2010, 1:10 pm

Saturday morning is on. with great support from committee and great enthusiasm/vibes from everyone.

Mark has said he can help again. great.
we have two new candidates which means we are at full capacity; for the boats that have been made available.

the plan is;
manual handling
more j-stroke, rudder & draw.
maybe shoot the sluice.
a demo of tracking, lining & poling.
more rescues.
and a cup of tea (optional for those who may find tea too exciting)

regards

Hugh

PostSubject: bad wind   Sun 10 Oct 2010, 3:14 pm

canoe session went well again.
although the wind ment we had to change our plans.
this gave us great opertunities to experiment and study how weather-cock, caused by the wind, can help out rather than hinder an open canoe.
Sean yet again battled away, successfully solo-paddling a canoe that probably weighed twice as much as he did.
Olive by the end of the session couldn't be persuaded out of the boat; even with fig roles!
Sinead however, for her first time, took to it like a badger scratching.

our next session will be Saturday the 23rd of Oct.
when we will try to get back on track with our Level 2 skills.

regards

Hugh
