PostSubject: Coaching the Coaches   Tue Mar 09 2010, 18:41

Subject: Coaching the Coaches - Rochestown Park Hotel Monday March 15th
at 7.30pm.

Dear All

Julia Walsh, the Director of the B.Ed.
Sports Studies and Physical Education programme, School of Education, UCC is to
begin a series of lectures beginning next week. These lectures are aimed
at coaches of all levels, across all sporting codes, with the goal of improving
coaching structures within clubs across Cork city and county.

The event is the first in a series of talks, and will involve students from the
B.Ed. Sports Studies and Physical Education programme as well as interaction
from the audience. It is set to attract a huge crowd to the Rochestown
Park Hotel on Monday next, March 15th at 7.30pm
.

Called Coaching the Coaches, the information sessions, brought to you by UCC,
in association with the Evening Echo and the Rochestown Park Hotel, is aimed at
coaches and administrators of all levels across all sporting codes who have a
desire to improve the coaching structures at their clubs.

The presentation by Julia Walsh, who is recognised by her peers as one of the
leading teacher of coaches in Ireland, is
called 'The Novice Coach, learning from expert novice coaches'.

This first presentation is aimed at novice
coaches working with children and club administrators working with novice
coaches.

The forum, which includes a presentation by Julia Walsh,
contains information that will help novice coaches at the start of their
coaching journey and introduce them to new ideas and thinking.

Students from UCC involved in the coaching stream will share their experience
and hints on coaching children in a round-table discussion.

This session
is free and open to all novice coaches (or people mentoring novice coaches)
across all sporting codes.

There will be opportunity for interaction and questions on the night.

All are welcome, and as demand is expected to exceed places available, those interested can
reserve their place at the event by e-mailing
esport@eecho.ie and confirming their attendance.

The second presentation night in this coaching series will take place on
Thursday April 22nd in the
Rochestown Park Hotel.

Here's the info on the next night in this series of seminars. The first one was very worthwhile so I plan on going to this one too. Anyone interested in coming along?

Expert
coaches Pat Price, Mark
McManus and Sinead Luttrell will each make a presentation at the next
Coaching
the Coaches seminar which focuses on the issue of ‘Planning to Plan’ on
Wednesday April 28th in the Rochestown Park Hotel. (7.30 to
9.30pm)

Led by
keynote speaker Julia Walsh,
Director of Sports Studies and Physical Education, UCC, the two-hour
event,
which is sponsored by the Evening Echo and the Rochestown Park Hotel
will focus
on the importance of the need to plan, and planning is a skill that is
an
essential part of every coaches daily routine.

This coaching
session will include
presentations from Pat Price on ‘Know your game, plan the same’, Mark
McManus
on the fundamental movement skills and physical conditioning for
coaches, Julia
Walsh on planning sessions for mixed ability groups and Sinead Luttrell
on the
key components of session planning for novice coaches.

At the
conclusion of each
presentation there will be a question and answer session followed by
breakout
groups discussing the above topics.

If you are
new to coaching or
thinking about coaching there will also be a dedicated workshop on how
to plan.

There will be
a charge of 10 euro on
the night to cover the cost of staging the event.

If you are
interested in reserving
your place at the event please e-mail
esport@eecho.ie
and register your interest and a place will be reserved for
you.

Mark is a great strength and conditioning coach. I did my weightlighting coaching with him and he coaches an oylmpic athlete.

Pat is another guy I know well, with massive experience in sports planning, especially basketball at US college, Irish college and International level. Has a very stratigic outlook

Well worth it for both of them. The other two coaches I know less well but have a very good CV.
