Eddie English in Sailcork runs VHF courses Noel. Pretty good I hear.

http://www.sailcork.com/index.php/vhf-radio/vhf-radio

If you have a group of 6 or more they will run a special course for you.

I'd be intereested in doing a VHF radio course. If we could get another 5 interested in the club we could organise a course to suit with Eddie English.

I think it's a one day thing...???

Great Idea ,Kevin,

I'll ask around interested parties. The most serious ,point of NOT having VHF licence. As I see it .
1 .With no Verifable call sign,it leads to delays and misunderstanding.
Thats enough time to drown.

After speaking to our, Naval signals expert.Who does not overstate the case. .

I thinks it's best just Do VHF course and be legit.

Again thanks to all for input.

If we have enough heads and can get a course run at a reasonable price per head I'd be interested.

360 euro to talk on a radio? plus 44 for an exam? That's taking the proverbial.....

This is a list of course providers, if it's 25% of this, I might be interested.

while the price sounds expensive, it is worth doing. I to often come across marine vhf radios being mis-used. This can be just the incorrect channels being used to people blocking the distress frequency due to lack of knowledge. I've completed the gmdss long range course which is a two week course but the outcome is the same. They both produce a competent operator who is them in the position to apply for their call sign.↲I would still carry a radio whether i had a license or not. However i would go to the trouble of making myself aware of the do's and don't involved with marine vhf. I am up the walls at work lately but if a few of ye are interested in am informal chat about it, we can arrange to meet up some night

Cheers Dave, I'd defo be on for that at some stage. I appreciate the need to know how to use it properly, after all we don't think twice about the need for a driving licence. I think the price is prohibitive enough though, to put off the hobbyist (e.g. us occasional sea kayakers) from getting trained up. I don't believe that is good practice. Thanks for the offer.

I'd be interested in the informal tuition on the VHF radios Dave.

You can let us know when things settle down at work and get a group together.
